چکیده

Wing Beats 25 In this ar t icle we describe our recent work on the development and field demonstration of a new type of carbon dioxide baiting source for mosquito surveillance. Everyone involved in mosquito control is aware of the close relationship between carbon dioxide and mosquito attraction. Mosquitoes use carbon dioxide plumes to find host animals for blood feeding. It is well documented that the use of carbon dioxide greatly enhances mosquito collection using the standard Center for Disease Control (CDC) trap. Effective mosquito and disease vector surveillance depends on collecting a sufficient number of specimens to assess public health risks. The overall goal is to develop more efficient baiting methods and devices that increase collection efficiency, improving the accuracy of public health risk assessments.

Development of Palladium-Alloy Membranes for Hydrogen Separation and Purification

This paper summarizes R&D activities and progress at NORAM Engineering and the University of British Columbia (UBC) on preparation and testing of thin palladium-based membranes and their applications. Most of these activities were carried out internally at NORAM, some jointly with UBC and their spin-off company, Membrane Reactor Technology (MRT) through a wide range of projects. Key results out...

Preparation of Gd2O3 nanoparticles from a new precursor and their catalytic activity for electrochemical reduction of CO2 to CO

The mononuclear Gd(III) complex, [Gd(L)3(H2O)5] (where L is alizarin yellow R (NaC13H8N3O5)), has been prepared in H2O under reflux condition. The Gd(III) complex has been characterized by elemental analysis and spectroscopic methods (UV–Vis and FT–IR). The Gd2O3 nanoparticles were prepared by the calcination of the Gd(III) complex in air at different temperatures up to 600 °C for 2 h. The calc...

Light, carbon dioxide, and octenol-baited mosquito trap and host-seeking activity evaluations for mosquitoes in a malarious area of the Republic of Korea.

Two field trials for commercially available and experimental mosquito traps variously baited with light, carbon dioxide, octenol, or combinations of these were evaluated in a malarious area at Paekyeon-Ri near Tongil-Chon (village) and Camp Greaves, Paju County, Kyonggi Province, Republic of Korea. The host-seeking activity for common mosquito species was determined using hourly aspirator colle...

Development of New Potassium Carbonate Sorbent for CO2 Capture under Real Flue Gas Conditions

In this paper, the development of a new potassium carbonateon alumina support sorbent prepared by impregnating K2CO3 with an industrial grade of Al2O3 support was investigated. The CO2 capture capacity was measured using real flue gas with 8% CO2 and 12% H2O in a fixed-bed reactor at a temperature of 65 °C using breakthrough curves. The developed sorbent showed an adsorption capacity of 66.2 mg...
